Paddle round the wetlands

A CANOE Safari is all set to open at the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Centre at Slimbridge. Visitors are invited to pick up a paddle and step into a canoe for a wetland adventure this spring.

The launch takes place on Monday, March 31 at 11am.

The Canoe Safari is the third new exhibit to open in WWT Slimbridge's ongoing Splash! development, aiming to give visitors the chance to experience wildlife from a new perspective.

People will visit the fisherman's hut to see how to paddle their own canoes, before taking to the water in the safety of the supervised coracle pool. Once acclimatised to the sturdy open canoe, visitors will be able to discover a wetland trail rich in wildlife and native plant species.

The trail will take them on a journey of discovery with glimpses of the wild reserve and nature up close through reeds and grasses. Landlubbers can enjoy the 'Riverlife' experience from the safety of the shore or watch the wildlife from the family friendly Hide. There is a fun play area for younger visitors plus picnic tables and an outdoor café providing delicious snacks.

This Canoe Safari is available as part of a day visit to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre every day from April 1 to October 31 (10.30am-4pm) and on weekends and bank holidays from November 1 to December 31 (10.30am-3pm). The activity is suitable for ages four and above.
